The Power of Conversation
In managed care pharmacy, information moves quickly, and so do the professionals trying to keep up. Between evolving clinical guidelines, policy updates, and new therapies, it can be hard to stay current. That’s what makes podcasts such a refreshing space for learning – they turn education into something you can take with you.
Working behind the scenes on Unscripted – The AMCP Podcast, I've seen firsthand how a single conversation can spark curiosity, inspire connection, and make complex topics feel more approachable.
Bringing Discussions to Life
Unscripted – The AMCP Podcast covers a range of topics that reflect the depth of managed care pharmacy, from policy and leadership to therapeutic innovation. Some of my favorite episodes explored alopecia areata, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. These conversations go beyond simply outlining clinical guidelines—they weave personal stories into the data, illustrating where access, coverage, and compassion truly come together in the lives of real people.
As Dr. Arash Mostaghimi, MD, MPA, MPH, Vice Chair of Clinical Trials and Innovation, Brigham & Women's Hospital Department of Dermatology, shared during the Alopecia Areata episode, “This is not a cosmetic disease. It’s about making people a better version of what they were before.” Hearing that reminded me that every conversation on the podcast goes beyond science. Behind every data point is a real person, and every discussion ultimately centers on helping patients regain not just their health, but their confidence and quality of life.
Behind the Mic: What I’ve Learned
Being part of the podcast production process has given me a new appreciation for collaboration. Every episode involves thoughtful planning, from researching disease states to preparing questions that encourage meaningful dialogue. What listeners don’t hear are all the little moments that bring an episode to life: the host testing sound levels, the quick exchanges to confirm lighting and camera angles, and the occasional laugh when someone stumbles on a word and we pause for a retake.
There is a certain energy in the virtual “studio”, a mix of focus, curiosity, and genuine enthusiasm as everyone works together to shape a meaningful conversation. Even with edits and retakes, those spontaneous moments remind me that every episode is about people connecting to share what matters most.
Continuing Education, Reimagined
Podcasting is a movement toward accessible, lifelong learning. It creates space for multidisciplinary voices, including pharmacists, clinicians, researchers, and health plan leaders, all coming together to share their perspectives. I’ll never forget a moment from the Parkinson’s disease episode, when the guest, a patient herself, shared how hesitant she was to start therapy and how it took time, honesty, and trust to truly connect with her provider. Listening to her describe that shift, from resistance to partnership, reminded me that clinical decisions are deeply personal.
This spirit of open dialogue perfectly aligns with AMCP’s mission to advance learning and engagement through innovative communication channels. The conversations we help facilitate inform and connect us.
“Thank you for listening!”
Behind every episode is a shared purpose: to bring the patient back to the center of the conversation. These podcasts remind me that learning doesn’t always happen in a classroom. Sometimes, it happens in moments when we simply listen.
