AMCP and The PVI Company Partner to Advance the Payer Value Initiative
New payer-centered platform fuels intelligence-driven drug value assessment
ALEXANDRIA, Va., October 5, 2026— The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) and The PVI Company are partnering to advance a payer-centered approach to understanding drug value, bringing together AMCP’s leadership in evidence standards and managed care pharmacy with PVI’s powerfully efficient value assessment platform.
Across managed care, Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) teams repeatedly assemble, evaluate and interpret many of the same sources of drug evidence before applying their own plan-specific judgment. Being formally introduced at AMCP Nexus 2026 in San Diego, the Payer Value Initiative (PVI) platform is designed to provide a more efficient, consistent, and transparent starting point for that work. AMCP will convene managed care expertise and payer perspectives to continually help shape how the platform evolves.
“AMCP has long led efforts to improve how pharmaceutical evidence is structured, communicated, and used by health care decision-makers,” said Susan Cantrell, MHL, RPh, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of AMCP. “This partnership is a natural next step — supporting how payers evaluate and interpret complex evidence to inform formulary decisions.”
At the core of the platform is a baseline assessment for each drug, built from publicly available evidence — including peer-reviewed literature, FDA review documents, and health technology assessments — structured across clinical, economic, and patient-centered value dimensions. PVI’s network of practicing expert and payer reviewers collaborate in the delivery and calibration of this powerful resource.
“Transparency is foundational to this work,” said Jeff Dunn, PharmD, MBA, Senior Payer Advisor and Co-Chair of the AMCP–PVI Payer Council, CEO at Cooperative Benefits Group. “The baseline assessment is a structured, payer-calibrated starting point, not a verdict — the final decision always remains with the P&T committee.”
“While the PVI Index provides an anchor, the full PVI assessment, mapped back to the published evidence, is at the foundation,” said Allen Lising, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The PVI Company. Manufacturer-submitted evidence is assessed separately using the same structured framework and does not alter the independent index.
AMCP and PVI do not advocate for coverage outcomes, decide formulary recommendations, represent payer consensus, or replace P&T clinical judgment.
The AMCP–PVI Payer Council, composed of managed care leaders, will help inform and shape the continued development of the platform. Attendees at AMCP Nexus 2026 can view baseline assessments firsthand and learn about additional payer and manufacturer participation opportunities through the AMCP-PVI Innovation Program.
