AMCP and Omnicom Health Market Access Author Three Accepted Articles for JMCP Focused on Standardizing Approaches to Biomarker Testing Access
[Alexandria, Va]— AMCP and Omnicom Health Market Access are pleased to announce that three co-authored articles on precision medicine have been published in the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy (JMCP).
These publications are part of a broader AMCP multi-year initiative to standardize precision medicine management across market access, removing operational barriers that delay or prevent patient care. By addressing critical gaps in consistency and clarity, the three articles provide practical, evidence-based frameworks to align stakeholders, streamline payer coverage, and improve the standard of care.
"Payer Coverage Principles for Precision Medicine Biomarker Testing in Oncology"
The first article addresses the substantial variation in payer coverage policies for biomarker testing, a major source of inconsistent patient access to precision medicine. To promote coverage aligned with evidence-based guidelines, the publication establishes eight guiding principles for assessing oncology biomarker testing. By adopting these principles and adjusting benefit designs accordingly, payers and health plans can minimize barriers and deliver appropriate, efficient, and equitable access for patients and providers.
"Key Considerations When Assessing Clinical Utility for Biomarker Testing: A Checklist"
The second article addresses a central challenge in managed care: significant inconsistency in how payers and laboratory benefit managers (LBMs) evaluate the clinical utility of biomarker tests. Varied evidentiary standards, outcomes of interest, and decision-making frameworks currently create friction across the market access landscape. To solve this, the publication introduces a structured checklist that organizations can use to establish a transparent, systematic, and evidence-based evaluation process, reducing complexity for patients, providers, and manufacturers navigating the space.
"Natural Language Processing to Develop a Standardized Lexicon for Precision Medicine in Oncology"
The final article highlights findings from a natural language processing project that addresses substantial variability in how precision medicine terms are understood and applied across stakeholders, a disconnect that can create confusion and impact patient care. By establishing a consolidated lexicon, this work provides a common framework for managed care stakeholders to clarify related concepts, streamline policy decisions, and improve communication across settings.
AMCP developed these resources with funding support from AbbVie, AstraZeneca, Genentech, Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Illumina, KlearTrust, Pfizer, Merck, Sanofi, and Omnicom Health Market Access.
