AMCP Partnership Forum Advances Discussion on Patient Experience Data in Payer Decision-Making
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alexandria, Va., [July 14, 2026] The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) convened stakeholders across managed care, patient advocacy, life sciences, and research for its Partnership Forum, Insights to Impact: Advancing the Use of Patient Experience Data in Payer Decision-Making, held in Alexandria, Va., in June 2026. The forum focused on how patient experience data (PED) can be more consistently evaluated and applied within payer decision-making frameworks.
Over two days of working sessions, participants examined practical considerations for positioning PED as decision-relevant evidence. Discussions centered on the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating PED into established payer workflows, including questions related to evidentiary expectations, value, communication, credibility, and transparency.
Forum participants noted that PED are increasingly generated and recognized across the health care landscape, yet their incorporation into payer decision-making remains uneven. Participants emphasized that greater clarity is needed around how these data can be evaluated alongside traditional evidence types and applied within existing decision-making processes.
“If we want healthcare decisions to be more patient centered, we need to be more intentional about how we understand, evaluate and apply patient experience data.” – Mitzi Wasik, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, FAMCP, FCCP, Executive Director for the AMCP Foundation and Senior Vice President of Practice Strategy and Innovation at AMCP
Participants also highlighted that the value of PED depends on how well patient-derived insights align with decision-maker needs. Clinical relevance, impact on health outcomes, population-level applicability, and timing within the decision lifecycle were identified as important considerations for supporting more consistent payer assessment.
The forum underscored the importance of clear and structured communication. Participants noted that limitations in the use of PED are often related less to data availability and more to how information is communicated to decision-makers. Tools and approaches such as patient experience dossiers and the AMCP Format may help improve clarity, access, and interpretation.
Credibility and transparency were also identified as central factors influencing whether PED are incorporated into decision-making. Participants discussed the need for transparent data collection practices, methodological consistency, and clearer alignment on what constitutes “fit-for-purpose” PED across payer environments.
AMCP’s Partnership Forum model provides a structured environment for cross-sector stakeholders to examine shared challenges and identify practical approaches to common barriers. Continued collaboration across stakeholder groups may help inform future guidance, tools, and research priorities that support the evolving role of PED in payer decision-making.
As the field continues to evolve, AMCP will continue convening stakeholders and advancing discussions that support practical, evidence-informed approaches to integrating PED into payer decision-making. Forum participants identified several areas for continued focus, including greater clarity in how PED are evaluated and contextualized, more consistent communication approaches, continued emphasis on transparency and methodological rigor, and sustained collaboration across stakeholder groups.
AMCP thanks the participants who contributed their expertise and perspectives to this important discussion. We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of our sponsors, whose partnership is instrumental in advancing this initiative and driving meaningful impact.
