AMCP Recognizes the Great Life and Achievements of Former CEO Judith Cahill

Alexandria, Va., Aug. 12, 2022  AMCP mourns the passing of managed care pharmacy icon Judith Cahill. A former CEO of AMCP, Judy led the organization for more than 15 years, growing its membership from 600 to more than 6,000 managed care professionals. She was instrumental in the creation of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance and development of the Format for Formulary Submissions. She was crucial in guiding AMCP during the passing of the Medicare Modernization Act and the launch of Medicare Part D.

“As the first CEO in AMCP’s history, Judy set the bar high through her dedication to impacting and improving health care on a national level and ensuring that the patient voice is the first voice heard in the discussion,” said AMCP CEO Susan Cantrell, RPh, CAE. “I grew to know Judy on a personal level over the years, and I was continually amazed by the warmth and compassion she showed everyone she met. She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will continue to inform and inspire us in the years ahead.”

During her remarkable tenure at AMCP, Judy oversaw the implementation of AMCP Lobby Days, the first time the story of managed care pharmacy was told to lawmakers on the Hill. She also championed AMCP as it supported and provided insight for the landmark Affordable Care Act.

Judy’s commitment to improving patient care was unparalleled during her more than two decades in managed care, and she will be remembered as a friend, co-worker, and leader who broke barriers and instituted positive change that enhanced the lives of millions of Americans. AMCP sends condolences to her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched during her exceptional career.

For those who wish to honor Judy’s life work with a contribution, AMCP Foundation recently launched a memorial fund to support public education about the role managed care pharmacy plays in ensuring high-quality patient care, and other AMCP Foundation initiatives. Memorial donations can be made on our website. We welcome your continued support and interest in the Foundation.
