AMCP Releases 2025 Managed Care Pharmacy Workforce Report: High Fulfillment, Flexibility, and Competitive Pay Highlighted
Alexandria, Va., Oct. 6, 2025 — The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) today released a first-of-its-kind Managed Care Pharmacy Workforce Report, providing a comprehensive look at the state of the managed care pharmacy profession. By defining the managed care pharmacy workforce and providing actionable data, the 2025 report equips individuals and organizations with the insights needed to support workforce development and ensure the continued advancement of the profession.
The report reveals that managed care pharmacists are experiencing exceptional professional satisfaction, with a mean Professional Fulfillment score of 3.56 out of 5 which is well above the 2022 National Pharmacist Workforce Study (NPWS) average of 2.92. Work exhaustion is notably lower, averaging 2.23 out of 5 compared with 3.14 in the NPWS, indicating reduced burnout and improved well-being across the profession.
Compensation remains competitive, with over two-thirds of pharmacists expressing satisfaction with their pay and benefits. Flexibility and control are hallmarks of the managed care pharmacy workplace. Eighty-four percent of pharmacists report significant or complete control over choosing paid time off (PTO) dates, while 74% can take PTO on short notice and 70% have substantial control over taking time away during the workday. The profession has also embraced modern work arrangements, with 72% of respondents working fully remote and 89% traveling five days or fewer per month, including 36% who report no required work travel.
“These results underscore managed care pharmacy as a dynamic, rewarding, and adaptable career path,” said AMCP Chief Executive Officer Susan A. Cantrell, RPh, CAE. “Our members are thriving in flexible roles that support both professional fulfillment and work-life balance.”
