Despite clinical guidelines, biomarker testing is unevenly applied, leaving patients without access to targeted therapies. 

Precision Medicine uses a patient's genetics to create personalized treatment plans and procedures. It has traditionally been used in common procedures such as blood transfusions, and now its application is rapidly expanding to other branches of medicine, notably oncology. Unfortunately, many patients don’t end up receiving the most effective plans due to clinical practice gaps. For example, around only 36% of Non-small cell lung cancer patients get the right medication. 

Considering the role of managed care pharmacy in this major public health trend, AMCP launched the AMCP Precision Medicine Initiative to better understand the causes and impacts of these implementation gaps and develop solutions to help patients get the life-changing therapies they deserve. 

AMCP convened leading experts from across health care disciplines for a two-day Precision Medicine Partnership Forum. The forum aimed to advance equitable and timely access to precision medicine, particularly in oncology.
