Bio: Susan Cantrell joined AMCP as Chief Executive Officer in 2016. In this role, she leads the organization in fulfilling its mission to improve patient health by ensuring access to high-quality, cost-effective medications and other therapies. She works to advance AMCP’s policies to address rising health care costs and facilitates work to shift toward paying for value in health care. In 2019, she oversaw the award-winning AMCP rebranding effort.   

A former practicing pharmacist in hospital, home infusion, and specialty pharmacy, Susan has spent much of her career in the health care association industry, serving as vice president of resources development at the American Society of Health‐System Pharmacists (ASHP) and senior vice president and managing director, Americas, for the Drug Information Association (DIA) before joining AMCP. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy and completed a Certificate in Public Health from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Public Health. She frequently speaks on health policy issues and topics related to quality and value in health care and is currently chair of the USP Biologics Sector and a member of the board of directors of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance.    

Reflecting her passion for mentorship and support of student pharmacists and young practitioners, Susan is co-author of two books providing career advice for pharmacists: “Letters to A Young Pharmacist: Sage Advice on Life and Career from Extraordinary Pharmacists” (2014), and “Letters from Rising Pharmacy Stars: Advice on Creating and Advancing Your Career in a Changing Profession” (2017).
