University of Michigan Receives First Place from AMCP Foundation in 2022 National P&T Competition

Alexandria, Va., April 13, 2022 — AMCP Foundation and its partners announced the top schools of pharmacy in its 22nd Annual National Student Pharmacist P&T Competition at the conclusion of AMCP 2022. The competition convened student pharmacists from around the country to develop a formulary drug monograph, considering evidence gaps; value; health equity; and utilization management tools.

The 2022 recipients are:

  • First Place: University of Michigan College of Pharmacy
  • Second Place: Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy
  • Third Place: University of Washington School of Pharmacy
  • National Finalists: University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and University of Southern California School of Pharmacy

Designed to provide a firsthand experience in the complex practice of managing a formulary, the P&T Competition had more than 60 PharmD programs nationwide participate. Fifteen teams were recognized as semifinalists, and five teams were subsequently national finalists and presented to a mock P&T Committee.

“The exceptional submissions we received from students across the country is a great indicator of a secure and innovative future for managed care pharmacy,” said Paula J. Eichenbrenner, MBA, CAE, AMCP Foundation executive director. “AMCP Foundation congratulates all of this year’s participants and looks forward to the start of their successful careers in our industry.”

The teams of four worked through a series of assignments using a product dossier in the AMCP Format for Formulary Submissions. The study drug for the 2022 P&T Competition was PONVORY® (ponesimod) once-daily tablets. Ponvory is a sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), to include clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease, in adults.
