Summary of the 340B for Patients Act and SECURE 340B Act
Following the passage of pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform legislation in early 2026, federal policymakers have shifted their attention towards new opportunities to lower the cost of health care. That includes the 340B drug discount program, which enables eligible hospitals and care facilities to stretch scarce federal resources in support of low-income or uninsured patients. On June 29, Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA) unveiled a discussion draft of the 340B Drug Pricing Integrity and Accountability for Patients Act (340B for Patients Act). On July 6, Reps. Scott Peters (D-CA) and John Joyce (R-PA) introduced a similar 340B reform package, known as the Strengthening the Exercise of Controls and Upgrading Requirements for Efficiency in (SECURE) 340B Act (H.R. 9599).
