APPE DESCRIPTION
Description of the Activities in which the Student Pharmacist will be Involved
The Clinical Pharmacy Services (CPS) was developed in 1999 primarily to help Massachusetts Medicaid meet its federal requirements. CPS has since evolved and expanded into a program that offers comprehensive prescription drug management services to Massachusetts, as well as other states. Our novel and effective consulting and service models – customized for each client – ensure that state agencies maximize every healthcare dollar spent. Under the preceptorship of a Clinical Consultant Pharmacist and/or Managed Care Pharmacy Resident, the student will gain a dynamic working knowledge of managed care pharmacy through hands-on training and exposure to fundamental clinical and practical skills related to this rare learning opportunity serving the public sector. The student will be able to take part in optimizing patient care from within and gain exposure to skills sets in a field of pharmacy often overlooked by pre- professionals but highly sought out by executives in all areas of pharmacy.
APPE Length
The experience can be structured as a 4- or 6-week rotation. Site can host 1-day visits for those interested in gaining more exposure without the ability to complete an APPE.
