Residencies were submitted by AMCP members in response to AMCP’s call for program listings. This is not a comprehensive list of all available programs. AMCP provides this list solely as a service to readers. The listing of residency programs in JMCP does not imply an endorsement of any particular program, nor does AMCP guarantee the availability of any of the programs listed. Applicants should have a GPA of 2.7 or higher. Applicants must apply to the program using the designated application form. In addition, a resume, letter of intent, all college transcripts, and three letters of reference are required. All applicants must be registered for the ASHP Residency Matching Program.

Special Features: Residents are trained to function as leaders in implementing pharmaceutical care plans for specific patients in a managed care setting. In addition, the residents are trained in the role of the pharmacist in the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines. The residency program provides clinical, population-based management and administrative training. Clinical experiences include ambulatory rotations in Internal Medicine, Oncology, Family Practice, Asthma, Diabetes, HIV/AIDS, anticoagulation, and Home Parenteral Therapy and inpatient rotations in General Medicine and General Surgery which will emphasize the pharmaceutical care of these patients. Population-based management would include work with the Clinical Roadmap Teams (e.g. asthma, depression, heart care, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, etc.). Administrative training is designed to orient the resident to basic management processes and procedures used to administer a pharmacy department.

Special Features: Participation in managed care college. The residency is a 12-month postgraduate training experience structured for the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to advance the delivery of pharmaceutical services in an integrated health system. The resident will design system enhancements and participate in ongoing utilization management, disease management, and compliance intervention programs. He/she will participate in formulary management and design clinical indicators of effectiveness for guidelines. Through their enrollment in our Managed Care College, residents will work with their health care team (and practice site) to gain an understanding of the interrelationship of managed care organizations, pharmacy benefit management, quality improvement, measurement, and bench marking in optimizing patient care. The resident will formulate and answer a research question, using scientific principles, with a strong emphasis on outcomes, pharmacoeconomic and quality of life research. Experiences will include a rotation with our HMO (Health Alliance Plan), and involvement with the Center for Clinical Effectiveness, Health System Studies, Quality Improvement Center and Geriatrics Interdisciplinary Team Teaching program. Direct patient care responsibilities in one of our ambulatory clinics will be ongoing throughout the year.
