The Analytics and Outcomes Internship program is designed to provide pharmacy students a unique perspective to the managed care arena. This program offers the intern exposure to compiling and creating customized pharmaceutical cost analyses. These analyses explain how environmental factors, plan design, and Caremark pharmaceutical programs affect pharmacy costs. The intern will also be involved in proactively examining client data to identify cost saving and quality improvement opportunities. The intern will learn and be able to perform the following: 1) employ research results and existing analytical tools to help clients understand factors affecting their pharmacy costs, 2) proactively analyze client data to identify opportunities to sell additional pharmacy management services, 3) participate in cross-functional product development, marketing and other initiatives reliant on customer intelligence, and 4) coordinate closely with sales team.

Doctor of Pharmacy Candidate Summer Internship 2010

Genentech Medical Communications
 
Purpose:
The purpose of this internship is to provide the Doctor of Pharmacy candidate an opportunity to participate in an industry based Medical Communications (Drug Information) group. The candidate will gain knowledge in providing product information to health care professionals and interacting with related departments in a regulated environment. The candidate will learn the methods and practices used in the industry-based drug information practice setting.
 
Description/Requirements:
This paid summer internship will be 10 to 12 weeks in duration, with normal business hours. Candidates must have basic computer skills, an interest in drug information, and must have completed at least 2 years of a Doctor of Pharmacy program. Genentech’s internship program requirements must be met for consideration/participation (cover letter, resume, and phone interview). 
 
Goals/Objectives:
  • Provide experience is a pharmaceutical industry-based Medical Communications department
  • Develop a familiarity of various drug information resources
  • Improve ability to comprehend, analyze, and present medical information in a variety of formats
  • Participate in Medical Communications departmental educational activities and special projects
  • Develop an awareness of systems and process technology requirements used in Medical Communications
  • Develop an understanding of managed care concepts as they apply to Medical Communications
  • Provide exposure to the various roles of pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry 
Internship responsibilities:
  • Learn about and utilize available electronic resources
  • Give 3-5 presentations to the department and other audiences, which may include:

o    Managed Care projects
o    Vendor management projects
o    Quality Assurance and Quality Control projects
 
  • Assist the Medical Communications Operations team with special projects and routine assignments, which may include:
o    Reference retrieval, bibliography, documentation
o    Database maintenance, review, and QA
o    Departmental workflow improvement projects
