Applications Are Being Accepted For Summer Internship Programs

    2012 AMCP/FMCP/Pfizer Inc

Managed Care Pharmacy Summer Internship Program

The Foundation for Managed Care Pharmacy (FMCP), in conjunction with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), and with the financial support of Pfizer Inc, has made available six managed care internships for the summer of 2012. The goal of the program is to enhance a student’s awareness of career options in managed care pharmacy practice settings by direct hands-on involvement. Six managed health care systems will each host an intern for this program.

Following a competitive selection process, each selected student pharmacist will participate in a structured program, working with a pharmacist preceptor at a managed healthcare system. Students will complete a structured rotation, an assigned project and will be required to present the results of their project as a poster at AMCP's Educational Conference in October 2012 in Cincinnati, OH.  In addition, all AMCP/FMCP summer interns will participate in the Intern Best Project Competition.

Interns will also spend one week at AMCP/FMCP offices in Alexandria, Virginia, where they will be introduced to the workings of professional associations.

The program will cover housing, travel and other approved expenses, and interns will be paid a stipend.

To be eligible for the AMCP/FMCP/Pfizer Managed Care Pharmacy Summer Internship Program, a student must be enrolled in the 2nd or 3rd professional year of the PharmD curriculum at an ACPE-accredited school or college of pharmacy during the 2011-2012 school year with anticipated graduation in 2013 or 2014.  Three letters of reference/recommendation must be supplied with each application, one from the dean of the school, one from a faculty member and one from a non-relative, non-faculty member pharmacist (may be from applicants IPPE preceptor). Applications and letters of reference/recommendation must be received online or postmarked by Monday, January 30, 2012. The internship must be completed within a ten-week period between May and August 2012.

We are confident that students participating in the program will benefit from their experience, and look forward to the continued success of the summer internship program.
