Chapter Spotlight: Butler University, Indianapolis
The Butler University chapter of AMCP (BUAMCP) is in its third year of existence. One of the chapter’s most popular events is its annual roundtable event, “A Night Out with Managed Care Pharmacy.” This year, the 40 spots that were available for the evening were all taken within five minutes of opening the signup.
During this event, students were able to network and learn about careers from professionals in various managed care jobs. The chapter hosted professionals from Eli Lilly & Co, CVS Caremark, OptumRx, Express Scripts-Accredo, and a few independent consultants. The evening gave students about 15 minutes with each speaker in small groups of 5-7 people. This event gave chapter members a more detailed view into possible managed care careers, as well as helped introduce younger students to managed care pharmacy. Students were also able to obtain IPPE hours for attending if they wrote a short reflection paper.
The growth of BUAMCP is very exciting. In just three years, the group has almost 30 active members. This year was also the first year the chapter put together a team for the P&T competition. The team was named a semi-finalist for the competition. The roundtable will certainly continue in the future and the chapter hopes to put together another successful P&T team for 2017!
