CalOptima is a County Organized Health System (COHS) authorized by federal law to administer Medi-Cal benefits for Orange County residents. It is governed by a private board of directors and manages the health care for over 797,000 Medi-Cal beneficiaries in Orange County, California. CalOptima started a Medicare Advantage-Prescription (MA-PD) Special Needs Plan in January of 2006 providing Medicare Part A, B and D benefits. OneCare serves approximately 1,400 beneficiaries in Orange County who have both Medi-Cal and Medicare benefits. CalOptima’s PACE program (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) serves approximately 220 members. PACE is a community-based Medicare and Medi-Cal program that provides coordinated and integrated health care services to frail elders to help them continue living independently in the community. The program provides all the acute and long-term care services covered by Medicare and Medi-Cal. The newest CalOptima program is OneCare Connect Cal MediConnect Plan (Medicare-Medicaid Plan) serving over 15,000 members. This is a new health plan that combines Medicare and Medi-Cal benefits.
